oh this is so 90210

that fuzzy blanket, it inspires examination why, hello, ferrero rocher.

tonight, we tried some finger painting. with vanilla pudding. i was so excited to be doing something safe and creative with her wherein i didn’t have to keep saying, “no, it’s not for eating” that i immediately shared the knowledge of it’s puddingness with z. she spent half the time painting and half eating gobs of pink and blue ‘paint.’

we ended up doing a quick mop afterwards. after being covered in pudding, that is. cuz i got pudding loves from z, which i guess means that either the sugar made her love me or getting down on the floor and dirty=affection. either way, i’ll take it, pudding in my hair or not.

i was not successful in my 6am wakeup or avoidance of starbucks. i did get woken at 4:30 though, so that should count. and the starbucks, it was discounted. but seriously, really, i’m going hardcore. starting tomorrow.

so now, instead of this huge, impossible fucking list of the month’s to do shit on my sidebar, i’ve got the week’s goals. if you care.

further conundrums

so i’m looking through the activity guide of our local rec centres. and i find four things that z and i could sign up for. but what do i do? each class has pros and cons, as with all things i suppose. but seriously people, this is one of my resolutions and it’s not even 2008, yet. i could already have 1/28th of them nailed! they are…

paint & play

for 1-2 years, very hands on, painting colouring drawing gluing and stickering. and we get a scrapbook at the end of all of our “artwork”. cons: my kid eats everything. crayola colour wonders have even been shelved cuz of excessive marker sucking.

parent & tot gymnastics

only 15 minutes of free time for 1-2 year olds, then circuits of floor, beams, bars, trampolines and circle time. cons: my kid isn’t especially down with structured play – she does what she wants, you know? ends half an hour into naptime.

parent & tot creative time (seriously, can we stop calling them “tots”?)

for 1.5-3 years. paint, puppets, collages, books, music. cons: sounds kinda boring (to me) cept for the music aspect. also a little too creative – like i’ll be able to top that, solo!

dancin’ toddlers

for 1.5-3 years, dancing, playing instruments, singing, story time. sounds perfect and i think she’d really like it and i wouldn’t hate it. cons: it’s at a further away rec centre and ends 15 mins into naptime. i don’t get a freaking scrapbook at the end of it. and it’s the most expensive – $84 for 8 weeks.

for some reason, the future judgement of my mothering commitment all weighs on this decision. i cannot make the wrong choice. i think we’ll end up doing two: the last one and the first, honestly. if she eats too much paint, it’ll be non-toxic anyways and hey, she’ll work it off, dancin’.
