Tip #1: Select the right kind of leather cleaner. Read the label of the cleaner carefully before purchasing them. Those with olive oil or lanolin as a component are most suitable. Any solvent based cleaner should be avoided as it can have a damaging effect on the leather. Castile soap is a water based cleaner that can be safely used on leather.
Let us not make a mistake here. Most of these furnishings that you get today in the market is not actually ancient. It is made now, in our times, but is designed just to look like the ones that were popular in Charlie Chaplin's times. You will have dinner tables and chairs, chaise lounges, fireplaces with mantelpieces, carpets and rugs, grandfather clocks and those pesky but adorable canary clocks, everything that will take our grandparents down Nostalgiaville. Even the colors are the bright ones used in those times, and not the placid colors people prefer nowadays. The sixties, seventies, and the eighties were actually the Shout-Out generation, with even the furniture having a lot of accents. People in those times wanted their furnishings to stand up and be noticed when visitors came in.
IV. Mix cigarette ashes and butter or lemon juice or cooking oil. Rub the spot with a cloth dipped in this abrasive mix. Wipe clean with soft cloth. This method may need to be repeated and some pressure should be applied while rubbing.
Use clean water to wash off the soap water and let the furniture air dry. This process will help to remove the stains and mildew from the wood.
