On Substituting

Today, I found out that Isobel’s dairy intolerance has likely morphed into a full-blown allergy, which is why she seems to be having some lower intestinal bleeds. This would be from, say, repeated exposure to food stuffs she’s been intolerant toward for months. Now, I have to figure out how to find more foods she’ll be willing to eat that have no traces whatsoever of cow’s milk in them. That we can afford to keep stocked. This seems monumental.

Today, I implore you to go to this post and give the little guy a nickname. Your loins might thank you for it.

Today, I guest posted at one of my favourite girls‘ spots, because she’s off drinking, schmoozing and living the hot life. While working. Uhuh. I totally dragged down her blog. As you know I’m quite capable of doing. No really, go see.

  • When we found out about my son's milk allergy, his gastroenterologist suggested a very high priced substitute. Which would be when I discovered e-bay! It cost $240.00 a case, and I'd get it for $20.00 from parents whose children no longer needed it. Can't say I blame them for trying to get some of their money back!

  • I do not envy having to find dairy free stuff right now - I barely get out of the grocery without high fructose corn syrup...and even then it's almost by luck/accident.

Good luck and hope she starts to feel better.

  • I'm not really sure what makes Dad's with visitation feel that they know much better than, I don't know Doctor's and full time parents when it comes to allergies. I'm allergic to shellfish and I have two very distinct memories of ambulance rides because my Dad thought my mom was making my allergy up. Ahh nothing like childhood memories!
