Tick Tock, Watch the Clock, Not Much Time Til the Sleigh Takes Off

angel? hahaha yes, i have watched jingle bells about 45 times in the past five months, why do you ask? oh cuz of my post’s title? well, yes, i suppose it does give it away to those educated in animated christmas for kids.

today was such a crazy mishmash of a day. we spent all of the morning inside IN OUR PAJAMAS after z didn’t wake up until 9:30 (yes, i still turn on the baby monitor all the way when she’s sleeping reallyreally late, to make sure she’s breathing). we took a bubble bath, did some colouring, watched some dora, stories were read by me in a big comfie chair and under a blanket on the floor (we were camping, okay?) and z tried to read me a story. the bye-bye book is a pretty easy one – she’d turn the pages, point to the people, look at me and curl her hand up in her bye-bye wave. more literate than 40% of north america, already, eh? we basically just tried to burn off a lot of time, before it was the big bad nap time.

which she drifted off to, without issue. and i got some work done. which was wunderbar (mmm, chocolate). then she got up and it was like HEY WANNA GO SEE SANTA WITH AUNTIE STARGIRL?!!!!!

so we went to metrotown and she walked across most of the mall to the elevator that would take us to santa’s discotheque and she was completely unobservant that she was seriously like 15 feet away from the big jolly guy, the one who says hah hah hah, until he let one rip and then her head snapped around so fast, it was whiplashable. and it was ‘anda’ time and she wanted to go in the exit because now that she was willing to look in his direction, she needed to be RIGHT THERE BESIDE HIM.

kisses but, we waited in line for about 20 mins while she explored the outside of disco hut, all of the shimmering ‘presents’ and fluffy toule. and then we got in!!! and there was some apprehension on her part, which i expected, but with some dog tossing between santa and the photog and a candy cane, she came through and let santa hold her on his knee. i was soooo happy to not have the kid two places ahead of me in line.

then we got out and it was stroller time cuz she was all aboot the candy cane. that’s when the poop was discovered. HA my kid and her poop sat on santa’s lap today!

then we had some dinner after looking in some stores (holy crap, build a bear scares me) and next thing you know, it’s more than 45 minutes past her bedtime and she’s getting a little drugged looking. moral: go earlier next time, so she won’t be overtired and cranky/delirious almost all of the way home. (or not, because it was the easiest putting her to bed i’ve ever experienced ;-) )

note: this was a dry-run, to see if she freaked or not. there will be more visits, oh yes, more visits, indeed!

a: yes we got pictures, i can pick them up after five tomorrow. but i think i'll wait until our next visit. what worked really well with z was totally priming her. watching movies, reading books, talking about santa and when he's coming and what he says. now though, pretty much everything to do with exmas is called santa. trees, snowmen, decorations, music...hehehe

  • we haven't done santa yet. i'm kind of nervous, b/c i think i would be scared of him if i was her age. plus, she's totally in that "stranger anxiety" period, but i know that we HAVE to get it done.
did you get pictures taken with him this time? we need to see!

  • You're an awesome mom!

My anxiety wont let me take Bella to Metrotown. That whole place freaks me out this time of year.
BUT I still have to buy a tree and get Santa pictures and all that exmas stuff. blargh

  • that cute face!

  • Heh. Cute. We've been to Santa twice. Once for a test drive and once for pictures. It's all about the candy cane at this age...
