two words

she’s getting to the point of wanting independence.

sometimes. walking has helped a huge amount – making us joke that shes already a toddler and giving us more opportunities to laugh at her. she does resemble a drunken midget most of the time, after all.

with this new craving for independence has come the habit of screaming – for seemingly no reason. she could be testing her vocal cords. she could be checking out the acoustics in our apartment. she could be protesting being made to stop walking everywhere. it comes and goes and it’s usually in our face or ears. it’s swell.

so, with this new source of frustration – and her new found defiance and ability to giggle until she’s short of breath when mommy says NO in a curt tone, such as when removing her hat for the tenth time – there is a new form of exhaustion. it’s a constant exercise to not get mad at her. because she often seems to know she’s being naughty, but really, how do we know she knows? and if we know she knows, does she know that we know that she knows? a conundrum.

so, with this being a mainstay of life, there are two words that can strike fear into us like nothing ever before: broken condom.

please enjoy the next three weeks of paralyzing fear with me.
